At Unrivaled’s second media day Thursday, Phantom BC forward Satou Sabally, a pending WNBA free agent, announced she would not be resigning with the Dallas Wings.
“I’ve already communicated with Dallas how grateful I am because they’ve made this a home for me for the past years, and I’m working with them together and finding a next home for me because I’ve already played my last game in Dallas, and I’m just excited,” “Sabally said I’m excited for free agency.”
Sabally said the Wings communicated well with her representation through this process.
“Obviously, at first, they (Dallas Wings) were still trying. But I think what is most effective is working with the player, listening to their wishes, and hearing out how we can find the best solution for each other,” Sabally said. “So there was always great communication, more so on the agent.”
While she did not mention any specific teams for preferred destinations, Sabally said she is looking for as much money as possible on a team that fits around her on her next contract.
“Obviously, we are at the level where finances are important, and with the WNBA not being at the level where we want yet, I will go for the compensation, but I will also go for the best setup for me to thrive as a basketball player and get better,” Sabally said.
The multi-time all-star is coming off a season where she only played 15 games because of a shoulder injury, going 3-12 in those games.
Sabally entered the WNBA in 2020 and has yet to play a 100 career games. With that, she has earned an All-Rookie team, an All-WNBA team, and a 2023 Most Improved Player nod.
With a big payday approaching, Sabally focuses on her time at Unrivaled while her representation and the Dallas front office negotiate to find the Oregon product a new home.
“I need to focus on Unrivaled, and I will,” Sabally said. “So I’m trusting the people I have on my staff and the front office to help that further.”
