With the game on the line, Rose BC (1-2) led Mist BC (0-4) 69-66, needing just two points to secure its first win of the Unrivaled season. Veteran guard Chelsea Grey took control of a timeout, took coach Nola Smith’s play, and made it her own. Less than a minute later, in real-time, she hit a stepback jumper at the free-throw line to win the game.
The Rose had four players in double digits, but Grey showed the experience. Slowing the game down every chance she appeared to have, Grey used her basketball IQ to set her teammates up all night long, finishing the game with six assists.
Both teams entered the Saturday night contest winless, and Rose’s inexperience showed in the third quarter when nine fouls were committed, with the Mist earning 10 points from the charity stripe.
Angel Reese got into foul trouble early and remained in it for the entirety of the game. And after playing just nine minutes in her first two games, guard Lexi Hull exploded for 19 points while seemingly getting as deep in the paint as she wants, whenever she wants it.
The Mist’s offensive struggles continued tonight. Guard Jewell Loyd and forward Rickea Jackson combined to shoot 6-21 from the field, while the Mist shot 18.2% from three.
The Rose will play the undefeated Laces BC, and the Mist will return to action in seven days to face Vinyl BC.
